Resilient Livelihoods and Nutrition Security.
Resilient Livelihoods and Nutrition Security.
The program focuses on promoting climate-smart and agroecological farming practices to help farmers cope with climate variability, soil degradation, and pests. TEDDO will train and support farmers in conservation agriculture, water management, soil fertility improvement, crop diversification, and the use of resilient crop varieties, using demonstration farms, farmer field schools, and extension services to drive adoption. By integrating ecological principles, the program aims to enhance productivity while conserving natural resources, restoring ecosystems, and reducing reliance on chemical inputs.
The program also prioritizes the promotion of nutrition among children and women of childbearing age, recognizing that malnutrition remains a significant public health concern. It will support nutrition education, encourage the production and consumption of diverse and nutrient-rich foods, and link agriculture to improved dietary practices at the household level.
In addition, the program promotes livelihood diversification through activities such as livestock, poultry, fish farming, beekeeping, and small enterprises, with a strong focus on empowering women, youth, and vulnerable groups. It also strengthens community and institutional systems by working with local governments, cooperatives, and community networks to improve access to inputs, knowledge, and coordinated support. To address the challenges of rain-fed agriculture, the program further promotes affordable and sustainable irrigation solutions, enabling year-round farming and improving household resilience, nutrition outcomes, and food security.
