Gender and social justice
Women’s rights remain a critical measure of well-being and societal progress. Despite notable gains, inequality persists due to patriarchy, sexism, religious and cultural fundamentalism, unequal power relations, and negative norms, which continue to undermine the realization of women’s and girls’ rights. Similarly, PWDs face systemic barriers that limit their participation, access to services, and protection, reinforcing their vulnerability. TEDDO recognizes that the struggle for human rights is inseparable from the fight for women’s rights and the rights of marginalized groups, including PWDs. We will support the mobilization and strengthening of women’s solidarity movements, networks, and young feminist leaders, while also promoting the safety and inclusion of girls, women, and PWDs in public and private spaces. Building on ongoing initiatives such as GBV prevention and women’s empowerment programs, TEDDO will continue investing in strategies to reduce gender-based violence, including violence against children, girls, and PWDs, through both preventive and response mechanisms. Collaboration with cultural and religious institutions, the judiciary, police, and local councils will ensure survivors access justice. While some cultural practices entrench patriarchy, we will engage cultural leaders as partners to challenge harmful norms and promote inclusive development. Through partnerships with women’s movements and other rights actors, TEDDO will enhance the capacity of young women and PWDs to challenge inequality, transform unjust power structures, and connect with broader networks of rights advocacy globally. We will promote leadership and participation of women, girls, and PWDs, holding the State accountable for the protection and fulfilment of their rights, including equitable access to land, resources, and decision-making spaces. Interventions will also involve men as allies, working with male champions and change agents to address entrenched negative attitudes and foster a culture of respect, equality, and inclusion. This focus area will promote gender equality, prevent GBV, and advance social justice for women, youth and other marginalized groups through inclusive empowerment, protection, and accountability mechanisms.
