Church of Uganda Teso Dioceses Planning and Development Office (COU-TEDDO) is the Development arm of Church of Uganda Soroti and Kumi Dioceses, and operates in Teso sub-region. Our mission is to excel in providing holistic and sustainable community development services based on Christian values in Teso and neighboring communities.
 
COU-TEDDO currently implements innovative development projects in broad thematic areas of Resilient Livelihoods and Nutrition Security, WASH, Governance, Gender and Social Justice, Agribusiness Development, Education and Institutional Strengthening.
While our programmes are innovative, community driven and delivered through a faith-based approach, we seek to increase in terms of scale and reach so as to achieve greater and sustainable impact.
 
To achieve the above, COU-TEDDO requires a highly motivated, flexible, proactive, results-oriented and morally upright professional to join the current team in a new project.
 
POSITION: PROJECT ASSISTANT – AGRIBUSINESS
 
REPORTS TO:   PROGRAM OFFICER – AGRIBUSINESS
DUTY STATION: AMURIA/SERERE
Job Purpose
The Project Assistant – Agribusiness supports the planning, coordination, and implementation of project activities aimed at strengthening agribusiness development, improving farmer productivity, and promoting sustainable livelihoods. The position provides technical and administrative support to ensure effective delivery of project interventions, particularly in value chain development, farmer capacity building, and market linkages.
 
Key Responsibilities
1. Project Implementation
       Support the implementation of agribusiness and livelihood project activities in accordance with approved work plans.
       Assist in mobilizing and organizing farmer groups, cooperatives, village saving groups and producer organizations.
       Facilitate training sessions on improved agricultural practices, agribusiness skills, and postharvest handling.
       Support the establishment and strengthening of farmer field schools and demonstration sites.
      
Assist in implementing value chain development activities.
2. Farmer Capacity Building
       Provide technical support to farmers on climate-smart agriculture and sustainable production practices.
       Support training on financial literacy, VSLA, business planning, and entrepreneurship.
      
Assist farmer groups in developing agribusiness plans and enterprise development strategies.
3. Market Linkages and Value Chain Development
       Support identification of market opportunities for farmers and producer groups.
       Facilitate linkages between farmers, buyers, processors, and input suppliers.
Assist in organizing market exposure visits, trade fairs, and business forums.
4. Monitoring and Reporting
       Support collection of project data and documentation of activities.
       Maintain records of training sessions, farmer participation, and field activities.
       Contribute to preparation of monthly, quarterly, and progress reports.
      
Assist in monitoring project indicators and outcomes.
 
5. Community Engagement
       Work closely with community leaders, farmer groups, and local government extension staff.
       Participate in community meetings, sensitization activities, and stakeholder engagements.
      
Promote inclusive participation of women, youth, and vulnerable groups in agribusiness initiatives.
6. Administrative and Logistics Support
       Support logistical arrangements for trainings, meetings, and field activities.
       Assist in procurement and distribution of agricultural inputs and materials.
      
Ensure proper documentation of project activities and records.
Qualifications and Experience
Education
            Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in:
o Agribusiness o Agriculture o Agricultural Economics or a related field.
Experience
       At least 3 years of experience working in agricultural development, agribusiness, or rural livelihoods projects.
       Hands on experience in farmer capacity building and farmer field schools. 
      
Experience working with farmer groups and cooperatives is an added advantage.
Skills and Competencies
       Knowledge of agribusiness and agricultural value chains
       Understanding of climate-smart agriculture practices
       Strong community mobilization and facilitation skills
       Good communication and interpersonal skills
       Ability to work with diverse community groups
       Basic data collection and reporting skills
       Computer literacy (MS Word, Excel, and basic data tools)
      
Ability to ride a motorcycle (with a valid riding licence)

       Willingness to travel frequently within project areas
       Ability to work in a Church setting and with a clear appreciation of Church of Uganda values
      
Fluency in Ateso language is required
